SUNDAY NIGHT FILM CLUB

It is a ‘club’ in name only and is open to hotel guests and members of the public. The concept is very simple - Dinner and movie for $50 per person OR cocktail, bar plate and movie for 2 people for $25 per person.Dinner is chosen from a 3 course set menu. The movie is screened in the hotel’s sumptuous 100 seat state-of-the-art cinema at 8pm. Dinner and Cocktails are served beforehand in The Crosby Bar.

Each week a different film is shown ranging from a recent release to a classic. There will also be a short film screened beforehand.

SHORT: THE GIRL WITH THE YELLOW STOCKINGS
Directed by Grzegorz Muskala, this short follows a young couple who are spending the day in bed. He asks her to marry him but she says no, at first.

FEATURE: COCO BEFORE CHANEL
This stylish drama chronicles Coco Chanel's rise from obscure beginnings to the heights of the fashion world. Starring Audrey Tatou.

19th September
SHORT: FAST FILMS
Directed by Wanderlust James, this short experimental film was made entirely by videoing 35mm movie reels running past the lens at hundreds of frames a second. This mesmeric abstraction of form transforms the usual cinematic image into lines, colors and tiny variations on rhythms that make the colors and lines move amongst each other as individual objects.

FEATURE: MULHOLLAND DRIVE
The multi-award winning David Lynch directs this thriller which follows a woman suffering from amnesia as she searches for clues and answers across Los Angeles in an adventure beyond dreams and reality. Starring Naomi Watts.

26th September
SHORT: HOW I MET YOUR FATHER
Directed by Alex Montoya, the film watches as Ana and Mikel crash into Ana’s bedroom in a flurry of kisses. Mikel goes on to leave with his tail between his legs. Will Ana see the funny side and give him a second chance?

FEATURE: MICMACS
This French comedy follows a man and his friends as they come up with an intricate and original plan to destroy two big weapons manufacturers.

3rd October
SHORT: IN PASSING
Directed by Chris Croucher, this film follows Blitz mother Fay Travers as she carries on the war on the Home Front alone whilst her son and husband are away on the front line. One morning she receives a letter she feels unable to open.

FEATURE: AN EDUCATION
Carey Mulligan won an Oscar for her portrayal as a sixteen-year-old in the 1960s who entertains fantasies of a Francophile future while conscientiously pursuing the education that her father hopes will get her into Oxford.

10th October
SHORT: KINETIC SANDWICH
Directed by Eric Dyer, Kinetic Sandwich explores the secret motion hidden in an everyday object through a process that converts mass into time.

FEATURE: THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR PARNASSUS
Starring Christopher Plummer, Lily Cole and the late Heath Ledger, this adventure fantasy follows a travelling theatre company who give their audience much more than they were expecting.
April 25th
SHORT: THIS WAY UP
Oscar nominated animation which follows A.T Shank & Son who are having a bad day at the parlour when a falling boulder flattens their hearse.

FEATURE: THE LOVELY BONES
This film is based upon the award winning book by Alice Sebold. The all-star cast includes Oscar nominated Stanley Tucci, BAFTA nominated Saoirse Ronan as well as Susan Sarandon and Mark Walberg.

May 2nd
SHORT: THE NEW TENANTS
Oscar winning drama in which a prying neighbour, a glassy-eyed drug dealer, and a husband brandishing both a weapon and a vendetta make up the welcome wagon.

FEATURE: YOUNG VICTORIA
Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend star in this biographical dramatization of the turbulent first years of Queen Victoria's rule, and her enduring romance with Prince Albert

May 9th
SHORT: LADY GAGA ‘TELEPHONE’
This is the Director’s cut music video of the multi award winning performer.

FEATURE: NINE
With an all star cast including Penelope Cruz, Daniel Day Lewis, Marion Cotillard and Nicole Kidman, this musical drama follows famous film director Guido Contini struggle to find harmony in his professional and personal lives, as he engages in dramatic relationships with his wife, his mistress, his muse, his agent, and his mother.
